todan seraldbur.
full name;
Todan Seraldbur, pronounced "toe-DAN sayr-ALD-burr".
His name holds no meaning besides a random string of syllables.
His first name comes from his late grandfather; a fact that means little to nothing in his day to day life.
gender;
He always has been and will most likely always be a male.
race;
Todan takes great pride in the fact that he is a human.
occupation;
He is a medic, a doctor. His techniques revolve mainly around spiritual connections and the study of human humours. He has his clinic settled within Hittavainen though on occasion will make trips personally out to peoples' homes if they are in vast need or perhaps happen to have heavy pockets. A very spiritual man, Todan believes all illnesses are punishments rained down by the gods in accordance to some sin a person may have committed. Most diseases are caused by an imbalance of humours within ones' body, and the only remedy would be to once again make all of the humours equal. Which is achieved through bleeding, sweating, or vomiting. Of course, often times the most effective way to become well again would to offer forgiveness to Fenrir and his servants for whatever you have done that has offended them. But in case you have gone so awry that not even begs for mercy could save you, there's always leeching, cauterisation, blood-letting, and trepanning. Despite his unearthly respect for the gods and goddesses, Todan ironically has an arrogant disgust for their people and generally refuses service to anyone but humans.
personality;
Todan is complicated. His personality fluctuates depending on who he is talking to. In the realm of the humans, he's an extremely polite and well-mannered man. If anything he's more recluse and keeps to himself; not shy per se though he certainly doesn't have an abundance of friends. He prides himself in being a very distinguished person and like his father takes great care in his work. He does not have much of an outside life beyond his career and while has great opinions in the current "politics" of the world he doesn't actively participate in them. His life does indeed revolve around helping others; while perhaps his methods are not as effective as what we know to be our modern ones or even the healing demonstrated by selective Lapaki, Todan is not a complete idiot. While leeching and trepanning are generally not good ideas, herbal treatments prove to be effective in certain situations. His immense dislike of any lagomorph is a surprising contrast to his calm and benevolent personality. Despite his desire for money - an unfortunate necessity - Todan will generally help out anyone who shows up on his doorstep and he puts a great amount of patience and dedication into caring for the ill and diseased.
Another notable trait is his general lack of emotion; Todan comes off as unnerved and sometimes overwhelmed, but the only other emotion he displays is the occasional bit of stress or annoyance. He is prone to angry outbursts and having people die in his care at least once a week has hardened him against sadness. His dedication to his profession makes him seem very bland and it's difficult to get a smile out of him. Not only working most of the day but working most of the day around diseased and dying people does make him stressed and rather high-strung; any bit of social interaction will show that he is easily annoyed and is often short with people. He views himself too busy for friendships or social situations, let alone anything romantic. Todan's love life is rather pathetic, though he's never had a large interest in women. Not to say he's homosexual, he just likes to always keep himself busy and is a horrible, horrible flirter in any case. Many years of focusing on his studies and work have gnawed away at his social skills, and if one attempts to converse with him for an extended period of time he does become distracted and flustered and stumbling over words.
Another one of his lovely personality traits is that he's incredibly superstitious. Which also ties into the fact that he's incredibly gullible. He'll believe anything anyone tells him. As long as you're a person. But anyway, he has a superstition for any scenario. White moths hovering outside your window mean certain death, placing shoes under a table means bad luck. Not only is he superstitious, he's also paranoid. Todan worries. A lot. Despite the fact he'll believe almost anything you say, he doesn't have much trust morale-wise for other people. Especially those outside of the human race. Except for maybe elves, elves are okay.
description;
At twenty-two years old, Todan is fully grown and about 5'10". He's not an outrageously tall gentleman, but his height is coupled by his lean stature. His figure is slightly muscular though obviously he's not in any sort of marathon shape. He has long limbs and large hands and feet, his skin naturally pale though tinted tan due to the time he spends outdoors. His fair skin causes him to burn and peel easily though overall he has no freckles or otherwise odd blemishes. He has a birthmark splotch on the top of his left foot that's a light pink shade, though obviously not visible as long as he always wears shoes. His face is almost square, coming together at a pointed chin. He has large ears and thin lips, his nose straight and broad and his eyes thickly lashed and dark brown. His hair is naturally a deep brown, basically a black. It's thin and straight, the same color as his light goatee-vandyke facial hair that goes around his mouth and chin.
Clothing-wise, Todan typically wears darker shades. His typical outfit consists of a dark blue tight-fitting tunic that goes down to his knees, black breaches [or sometimes wool tights] underneath that. He also wears square leather shoes and on most days typically has on a dark wool cloak. His outfit changes little from day to day, and he always has on his silver pendant. Inside are leaves from common rue, oregano, and valerian plants - rumored to fend off disease, venomous animals, and evil in general respectively.
worship;
Hittavainen; The beloved human-formed divine being. Todan's most respected god, not for any aspect of his personality but more so because everyone else worships him. Having being raised in a very, uh, Hittavainen-centric society, he's Todan's main divine being. And plus there's statues of him around everywhere. He's hard to forget.
Wenet; And of course, the creator of people. While Wenet is not as prominently worshiped or prayed to as her father, she has her own importance as the goddess who gave life to the first human sloppy clay form. Obviously Todan has a great amount of respect for her; without Wenet, humans would still be slumming it up in the sky. Though despite being the mother of mankind, she's still second to Hittavainen.
Fenrir [& company]; Todan's view of Fenrir is more of respectful fear rather than worship or awe. Fenrir is the divine being that laments people with disease and while Todan has the wolf god to thank for his career, seeing sick people his entire life has had a toll on him. He respects Fenrir for the great power he holds and what he is capable to doing to mortals who disrespect him. While he doesn't quite pray or give offerings to Fenrir, he is the being Todan fears the most.
However, overall Todan has a great respect for all of the gods. Obviously he actively prays and worships mainly to Hittavainen and Wenet; however, he retains an incredible amount of knowledge regarding every divine being. He has no disrespect let alone any sort of hatred for a certain god or goddess despite the fact that they are indeed animals. His hypocrisy doesn't have much of an explanation.

history;
Todan was born in Hittavainen, the oldest of two siblings. His father was a medic that would frequently travel in and out of the capital, most often leaving Todan with his younger brother and his father's other family. Despite being a rich man - his profession paid well - his father had chosen to take on only two wives, one of course being Todan's mother. They all lived under the same roof which lead to him having very close connections with his half-family. Following the practice of Hittavainen, neither side felt any spite or inklings of inequality towards the other. His father had met his mother first and seduced her into marriage, producing Todan about ten months before he encountered his to-be second wife. His status as oldest was rivaled by his half-sister, who was approximately a year and a half behind him. His half-brother was three years younger than him, and then finally came his true brother who was four. His step-mother was impregnated with a third child though because it happened to be a breech birth, the baby was a stillborn due to oxygen deprivation during the birthing process.
The first few years of his life were uneventful save for swaddling and weaning and all of that. Todan's father was not an unkind man and typically was a cheerful and jolly individual, overworking himself for the sake of others. Despite the fact he would frequently travel, especially as a toddler - and with less siblings to share attention with - he would spend plenty of time with his son. Todan was introduced to the art of medicine early on in his life in which he would help his father gather herbs or as he aged, would be invited to accompany his father to his clinic. Obviously the fact he was sick a lot as a child is unrelated to the way his father let him hang around diseased patients at the hospital. Characteristics of his person nowadays were brought on by his upbringing. His father - being a medic - was a very spiritual individual and influenced Todan with his immense respect for the gods. From the day he could comprehend, Todan learned that the gods are the cause of everything that happens in this world. And everything happened for a reason.
Also pressed into his childish brain was his father's livelihood, everything his dad retained for his job. From age three Todan could list off cures for diseases and began to recognize herbs that went with certain illnesses. He had a fascination for the supernatural way aloe could prevent hair loss, or how freckles could be diminished with distilled walnuts. But aside from just being deeply religious, Todan was raised as deeply prejustice. His loath of all things furry was not so much influenced by his father - who on occasion would assist a wounded Lapaki, ironically probably doing them more harm than good - but rather his mother, who understood the difference between humans and any of the animal morphs. Namely, that they were animals. Sly-tongued beasts that could transform themselves into human-looking creatures and tried to pass themselves off as something that didn't have the brain of a peanut. Not only that but they were skilled in magic. Either way, Todan grew up despising Lapakis, Kitsunes, and Mucaros.
Though for most of his childhood, he only ever saw Kitsunes. His family lived fairly close to a den of them, a batch of furred cretins that deemed it appropriate to move their pack into a human house. Despite the fact he was trained to dislike them, these sort of beings were always shrouded in mystery. His mother would never let him go near them, and would always shut him inside if one of them was seen out and about. His mother and step-mother would frequently talk about how uncivilized it was to allow such foul creatures to dwell about in Hittavainen and would always discuss how someone should tell them to move back into the forest where they belonged. But no one ever did. As he got older and understood [or "understood"] more, his mother would tell him of the incredible magic these animals could conjure and how one of them would perhaps strike a person dead if the poor human even so much as looked at them wrong. So while Todan learned to hate all three animalistic races, he's always had a certain fear of them. Fear and hatred often go hand in hand.
When he was of age Todan was shuttled off to a fine school to learn how to read and write and to do basic arithmetic and all of those other silly little things. His schooling years were not anything exceptional. He was a fine boy who showed seriousness in his teachings and proved to be a bright child throughout his school years. His younger brother had been born by now, four years behind his older brother. His brother was a colicy baby and during this period of time Todan's father was home a lot, mixing fennel with milk or oxyalme and shoving it down the poor infant's throat. Todan's brother survived his infancy period unlike his late half-sibling, who was gestated during Todan's early school years. The stillborn birth of his step-mother's third child was a shake to the family that couldn't be remedied with any sort of herb.
This marked his step-mother's descent into steady insanity. The household was much colder and Todan's step-mother would constantly lock herself away. Her isolation slowly lapsed into sudden anger and she finally bottomed out at depression. This continued through the rest of the time that Todan lived with her and his father would frequently hang buttercups about her neck in an attempt to ward off whatever evil plagued her mind. Insult to injury, Todan's mother died when he was ten from smallpox which is primarily what gave him the final ounce of determination to follow in his father's footsteps. Even from when he was that young Todan decided that he would dedicate his life to helping others. Medically. And not everyone, just human others.
He eventually went and studied medicine and medical practice, learning the art of herbs and humours and about the human body in general. Todan never left the boundaries of K'verhon, and spent as much time as possible within the limits of Hittavainen. Hittavainen was a safehouse, a city where most lagomorphs - save for those Kitsunes - never dared to come. With no desire to move anywhere else, he became something like his father's apprentice as his father began to succumb to old age. He steadily took over his father's clinic and by age twenty - considering his father was forty-four - manned the hospital by his lonesome. Since then Todan has made a name for himself in Hittavainen as one of the few - and well-educated - doctors. Despite having moved out of his birth home, he still lives within Hittavainen and straying outside the city limits is reserved only for when he needs to collect herbs or must make an important trip. In a wooden wagon drawn by his father's aging mare Anise with his arquebus at his side is the only way he'll travel. Todan still makes frequent trips to his old house, especially since two weeks ago when his father came down with typhoid fever.
